Mathis Nour Starch Motion

Bio

Mathis Nour is a French dance creative, performance curator, and artistic director. A versatile artist and cultural strategist, he currently dances with the Ballet of the Opéra national du Rhin and serves as the founding president and artistic director of ACEAC – Association for Creation and Emergence in Choreographic Arts, a public-interest structure based in Rouen that supports emerging choreographers through incubation, curatorial mentoring, and strategic development.

His formation as a performer spans the Conservatoire of Rouen, the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon, and the Korean National University of Arts in Seoul, where he developed a creative language rooted in intercultural exchange and interdisciplinary exploration.

As a performer, he has danced works by David Dawson, Ohad Naharin, Lucinda Childs, LA HORDE, William Forsythe, Béatrice Massin, Mario Schröder, Martin Chaix, Bruno Bouché, or Cécilia Bengolea, and collaborated as a performer on performative installations at the MUDAM Luxembourg and Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen.

Mathis is also the curator of the Journées Émergence Chorégraphiques, a festival in Rouen dedicated to new choreographic voices and critical conversations around dance, art, and society. In 2024–2025, he is choreographer-in-residence at the Unterlinden Museum in Colmar.

 

In 2025, he will choreograph a new production of The Barber of Sevilleat the Korean National Opera, directed by Eunbi Cho.

Beyond the stage, he holds degrees in performing arts theory (Lyon 2), cultural project management (Université de Haute-Alsace), and political science (Sciences Po Grenoble), and is currently studying orchestral conducting at the Conservatoire de Mulhouse. From 2021 to 2023, he was national representative for the performing arts within CNESERAC (Ministry of Culture), contributing to national arts education policy.

He is also regularly invited to speak at conferences and professional roundtables across the field of contemporary dance and cultural policy — including at the International Festival of Dance in Cannes, the Centre national de la Danse, the French Ministry of Culture, and other major institutions in France and abroad (Korea, Suisse).
